The School Nutrition Association is a national, nonprofit professional organization involved in planning and serving our nation’s children in school breakfast and lunch programs. SNA is recognized as the authority on school nutrition and provides education for its members along with access to ideas and a connection to networking with schools across the country. SNA’s largest meeting is the Annual National Conference, which was held in Atlanta for this 2017 school year. This is a four day event that includes many informational sessions with speakers from USDA, SNA, and many experts in the field of child nutrition. The main exhibit hall included over three hundred companies that displayed their newest products for school lunch.
This summer I had the amazing opportunity to attend for the third year as a student intern for JTM Food Group Provisions Co. Inc. I was part of a team of sales, culinary and marketing professionals serving delicious and nutritious samples to School Foodservice Directors and their staffs interested in learning more about JTM’s new products.
My favorite part about the conference was getting to walk the show floor to see the diversity of booths and the variety of ideas to be served in the cafeteria lunchroom. There were culinary demonstrations, prizes to win, cases to display new products, and even a massage table set up for those weary from walking the show floor! I would love to be a fourth grader again to experience the new world of school lunch! I am so grateful to have been able to represent Miami University and meet so many dedicated to the K12 segment; many that I will see again soon at FNCE. I can't wait for next year's show – we’re headed to Las Vegas!
