As the crazy last couple of weeks in the semester approach, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. Upcoming deadlines take precedence over your typical healthy lifestyle. Instead of deciding to skip you daily workout, try some easy ways to sneak in exercise in unlikely places.
Here are four easy tips to slip in daily exercise:
1. If going to the gym is out of the question, you can try some fun exercises at home! It may seem impossible to take a couple minutes out of your schedule, but your mind can only focus for a certain amount of time. When you feel burnt out, trying getting up, stretching, and maybe even finding a short, fun workout/zumba video on YouTube!
2. Taking a walk to clear your mind is always a good idea when you’re in the middle of a stressful time. With the temperatures rising, it may seem hard to even sit still long enough to get any work done. However, if you schedule a walk around the block in the middle of your intense study mode, you may see yourself reduce in stress and revitalize your mind for the next session of studying.
3. A great time to get moving is when you first wake up! At the beginning of the day, your mind is fresh and not yet bogged down by the multitude of tasks on your plate. Take advantage of this mindset, and try a light morning workout. This could include a session of intense stretching, yoga, or a run outside. You’ll wake up fast, and be ready for the long day ahead!
4. Don’t think of exercising as a chore to do along with you loads of homework and studying. Exercise doesn’t have to be planned, time consuming, or even very hard. Try to get involved in social exercise, so that you can include your friends in the distressing time. A simple way to get everyone involved in an exercise break is a 10 minute dance party in your room. Dance, Dance Revolution, anyone? Or, you can start a quick hallway sport game with your floor (hall hockey is always a good time!)
The main thing to remember is that scheduling in some fun exercise will actually help with your workload. No one can concentrate forever, and what better way to refresh than getting some exercise in?
